Alternative rock band Nada Surf that is Matthew Caws, Ira Elliot, Doug Gillard and Daniel Lorca, started in the 90s. The name Nada Surf continues to tour. Their eighth album, You Know Who You Are, was a featured release on NPR in February 2016.
In 1992, the band was created by Matthew Caws and Daniel Lorca. Nada Surf's name says Matthew , "is actually referring to something much more existential, it's just surfing on nothing. Being lost in your head or in your imagination but you know, whenever I listen to music I always find myself off somewhere. Somewhere in space. You know, in mental space and it's a reference to that."

KANSAS has spent more than four decades as a part of the soundtrack of the lives of multiple generations of music lovers. The band’s first public statement appeared on their self-titled album in 1974. "From the beginning, we considered ourselves and our music different and we hope we will always remain so." Little did this legendary rock group realize that back in the early ‘70's, what seemed to be “different," was actually ahead of its time. This "garage band" from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner. The band has produced eight gold albums, three sextuple-Platinum albums (Leftoverture, Point of Know Return, Best of KANSAS), one platinum live album (Two for the Show), and a million-selling gold single, ‘Dust in the Wind.’ KANSAS appeared on the Billboard charts for over 200 weeks throughout the ‘70's and ‘80's and played to sold-out arenas and stadiums throughout North America, Europe and Japan. ‘Carry On Wayward Son’ was the #2 most played track on classic rock radio in 1995 and went to #1 in 1997.

Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna was raised in Kedah and began writing songs at fourteen. She soon taught herself to play guitar, and by 2006, in need of a creative outlet while attending law school, performed for an audience for the first time. Yuna offered her music on her MySpace page, which went on to net over one million plays. This online success tipped off the Indie-Pop label/management company to her music, and in early 2011 she signed with the Fader label.
“I’m just like any other girl out there.”
A few years ago the Malaysian singer told the New York Times, “I love music,” said the 27-year-old singer and songwriter, who sings in English and Malay. “I’m just like any other girl out there.”
The New York Times story center around how the singer wore the traditional hijab playing guitar at music cafes around the Malaysian capital, singing songs of love and heartbreak.
